The Four Way Test

As Rotarians we try to live our lives by the “Four Way Test”. These four simple questions become a test for things we think, say and do.

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

This test was developed by Herbert J. Taylor in 1932, who later became Rotary International President. But, since that time, it has never stopped being relevant.

The Four Way Test transcends religions and culture and it bridges generations and nationalities. As Rotarians, the Four Way Test provides us everyday, simple guidance on who we want to be, not only as Rotarians, but in our businesses and personal lives as well.

At the beginning of every meeting, the Bricktown Rotarians recite the Four Way Test. In our officer’s and board meetings the decisions we make are tested against these four questions. We really do practice what we preach.
